Going Platinum, Covering Grey, Coloring Your Beard

More men are asking for color than ever: icy platinum on a short crop, a champagne tone that catches the light, a beard that matches the hair again, or just a little less grey. Color is the fastest way to change how a cut reads — and the easiest thing to get wrong. Here is how it actually works, and why every color at Land of Barbers starts with a conversation, not a bowl of bleach.

Joe is back in the chair on Sunday, October 25. Book your free consultation now to get one of his first slots.

Platinum and bleach: a process, not a moment

Going platinum means lifting the natural pigment out of your hair, then toning it so it reads icy instead of yellow. Light hair can often get there in one appointment. Dark or previously colored hair usually needs more than one session, because pushing it too far in one go is how hair breaks. A good colorist would rather add a session than lose your hair.

Keeping it: the lift stays until it grows out, but the toner fades. Plan on a toner refresh every few weeks, a purple shampoo every week or two (more dries the hair out), sulfate-free products, and a mask now and then. Roots show as your hair grows, so short platinum looks best with regular touch-ups.

Champagne and softer blondes

Not everyone wants icy white. Champagne and warmer blonde tones are softer, easier to live with and more forgiving as they grow out — a good middle ground if platinum feels like a lot.

Grey: blend it or cover it

Grey blending (camouflage) knocks the grey back without erasing it. You keep some salt and pepper, it looks like your own hair, and it grows out softly instead of leaving a hard line. Full color covers everything; it is a bigger change and shows a root line as it grows. For most men, blending is the more natural choice — but it depends on how much grey you have and the look you want.

Beard color

A dark beard against grey hair, or a grey beard against dark hair, can age you more than the grey itself. Beard color done with a light hand — concentrated where the grey is heaviest, softer at the edges — looks like a beard, not a dye job.

Balayage on short hair

Balayage is not just for long hair. Hand-placed lighter pieces on a short cut add movement and make texture visible — on men and women alike.

Why a consultation first

At Land of Barbers, every color and bleach starts with a free consultation with Joe. He looks at your hair, your history, your skin tone and the result you want, then tells you what it really takes: how many sessions, how to maintain it, and the price for your hair — before you commit. No surprises in the chair. We focus on bleach, platinum, champagne and natural tones; we don’t do colored designs, and we color short hair only.

Questions we get every week

How many sessions does it take to go platinum? It depends on where you start. Light hair can often go platinum in one appointment; dark or previously colored hair usually needs more than one session so the hair stays healthy. Joe tells you honestly at the free consultation.

How long does platinum last? The lift is permanent until it grows out, but the toner that keeps it icy fades. Expect a toner refresh every few weeks, and root touch-ups as your hair grows.

What is the difference between grey blending and full color? Grey blending softens the grey and keeps some of your natural salt and pepper, so it grows out without a hard line. Full color covers everything and shows a clear root line as it grows.

Can you color just my beard? Yes. Beard color and grey camouflage are done with a light hand so the beard looks natural, not painted on.

How much does men's hair color cost? Every head of hair is different, so the price is personalized at the free consultation with Joe, before you commit to anything.

Do you do colored designs? No. We focus on bleach, platinum, champagne and natural tones.
